Observations on Bacilus Typhosus in its Filterable State.jpg
Observations on Bacilus Typhosus in its Filterable Statewas originally downloaded from www.nanoart21.org and manipulated in Photoshop CS2.

The unsharp mask filter was applied. Attributes Amount, Radius, and Threshold were applied at

maximum outputs each. The image was then flipped horizontally and vertically to create a cascading

visual effect. I used Google to find out that there are discrepancies in who actually

invented the microscope. One source offered Royal Raymond Rife, Ph.D. as the inventor of the

“Rife microscope, an instrument combining very high magnification with coordinated

resolving power.” I reuse this image in Burroughs-like cut-up form, retaining the crude use of

digital child scissors to create the collage effect depicting Rife in all his grainy Depression-era

scientific glory. He is given a modernization, a visual trope, and graced with a futuristic looking

pair of Oakley sunglasses to issue in his newly mediated stature of a founding scholar in the newly

developing field of Nano-imaging.

NanoSwarm.jpg
NanoSwarmI used the KPT Vortex filter on the original image to get the lacey effect. Then I painted delicate colors onto the delicate design.
I have been following the progress of Nanotechnology for many years. Back in the 80’s when scientists such as Erik Drexler and Marvin Minsky were writing about this coming technology, most people had not heard of it. Even many scientists thought it was a pipe dream. As with all the tools this amazing technology can be used for constructive as well as destructive purposes: for amazing healing procedures and deadly weapons as well.
Fragmentation---Nanolevel.jpg
Fragmentation - NanolevelI downloaded the nanoart image file and used Adobe Photoshop to colorize it. The image was then brought into Painter for re-working using Distorto and Fine Camel brushes primarily. That image was then brought back into Photoshop for final touch-ups.
